Gowanus, Brooklyn

In late 2022, I began working on an essay about Gowanus, Brooklyn. Researching the ecological, colonial, and industrial history of the area in books, films, and archives was one generative way into the material, but my favorite method of inquiry was walking the perimeter of the canal day after day to track shifts in weather, time, and light.
